I never met Neil Peart, nor had I seen him perform live. He still had a huge impact on me. I am saddened by his passing, but happy I heard his songs, read his lyrics and enjoyed his books. Thank you for all you have given me and the world, Neil. I hope your years of hard work made you half as happy as it made your fans.
Here's a post I wrote long ago about Neil.
Inspired By Neil Peart
"Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks." Simonides, 6th-5th century, B.C.

Blur: Another post I never wanted to write
For Ski, who left this messed up world too soon. We were with you, brother, and we're still here.
the world
the confusion
regret
apprehension
pain
the unknown
it all weighs so heavily
it's so heavy
Gets hard to breathe
Gasping
Buckling
Breaking
down
little by little
So heavy
this weight
on your shoulders
Dreams shatter
Relations sour
because of bad decisions
Need a moment
a second to
relax
to
breathe
Your machine takes you
down the final path
The wind in your face
cool, crisp
The roar of the motor
sings a melody
the rumble
comforting
soothing
fleeting
the machine
the man
man-machine
strong
no judgements
no pitiful glances
no lies
Just the truth
and freedom
and wind
and speed
man
machine
Man-machine
a release
a surrender
man-machine-wall
release
from the
pain
.....
those that remain
we're confused
pained
in the grasp of sorrow
agony, the toll of grief
you touched so many
you never really knew
you
never
really know
and you never will
it weighs heavy on us
so heavy
dizzying
like the world
is spinning out of control
like a blur
Blur
Spinning out of controlthe world

Ripple effect
1400 miles away
and I felt it
a tsunami of sadness
it surprised me
taken aback, I reflect
can't comprehend
unexpected, unwanted
who could have known
your state of mind
or the situation, circumstances
that culminated in a heated moment
and in the heat of the moment
the ring of the shot
shock and awe, locally
shock waves burst through the hearts
of friends and loved ones, near and far
who yearn to understand, heal
and ride the surge of sorrow
In memory of Tim S. You didn't deserve to go out like that
